GFR Calculator

Estimate your Glomerular Filtration Rate (kidney function) using the CKD-EPI formula

About GFR

Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease.

Chronic Kidney Disease Stages

  • Stage 1: GFR ≥90 (Normal or high)
  • Stage 2: GFR 60-89 (Mild decrease)
  • Stage 3a: GFR 45-59 (Mild to moderate decrease)
  • Stage 3b: GFR 30-44 (Moderate to severe decrease)
  • Stage 4: GFR 15-29 (Severe decrease)
  • Stage 5: GFR <15 (Kidney failure)

Understanding Your Results

The GFR calculator uses the CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) equation which estimates kidney function based on:

  • Serum creatinine level
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Race (Black or non-Black)

Important Notes

  • This calculator provides an estimate only
  • Results may vary with different creatinine measurement methods
  • GFR declines naturally with age (about 1 mL/min/1.73m² per year after age 40)
  • For accurate diagnosis, consult your healthcare provider
  • Additional tests may be needed for confirmation

When to See a Doctor

Consult your healthcare provider if:

  • Your eGFR is below 60 for 3 months or more
  • You have symptoms like fatigue, swelling, or changes in urination
  • You have risk factors for kidney disease (diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
